To inform all users that ITS will be disabling the AUTO UPDATES ON feature of all district desktops as of May 15, 2008.

• The district has adopted Big Fix as the “official” patch management technology to apply and manage desktop OS patches for all of the district’s remote site desktop computers.

• Big Fix enables the district patching deployment to be centralized and managed in an efficient and accountable manner.

• By “turning off” the AUTO UPDATES ON setting on all desktops district Internet bandwidth is NOT adversely affected when large OS patches are released by Microsoft.

• The Big Fix technology has been deployed leverages the patching process using “local to the site” resources. 

• This action will affect desktops only – NOT servers.

• Manual updates will remain available as required.

• As per the above time table disabling of the AUTO UPDATES ON feature will take place on May 15, 2008.
