To inform all users that ITS will be
disabling the AUTO UPDATES ON feature of all district desktops as of May
15, 2008.
- The
district has adopted Big Fix as the “official” patch management
technology to apply and manage desktop OS patches for all of the
district’s remote site desktop computers.
- Big
Fix enables the district patching deployment to be centralized and
managed in an efficient and accountable manner.
- By
“turning off” the AUTO UPDATES ON setting on all desktops district
Internet bandwidth is NOT adversely affected when large OS patches are
released by Microsoft.
- The
Big Fix technology has been deployed leverages the patching process
using “local to the site” resources.
- This
action will affect desktops only – NOT servers.
- Manual
updates will remain available as required.
- As
per the above time table disabling of the AUTO UPDATES ON feature will
take place on May 15, 2008.
